Ode to My Hair
This poem and picture are NOT my work. I found it via Black Women Art and as a Naturalista, wanted to share.
“Ode
to my Hair”
by Randolph Williams
I hated you You treated me wrong
You stole my
confidence I couldn’t be strong
Dealing with you was my daily curse
Like a battle
scene I was forced to rehearse
What’s wrong with you? Why can’t you act right?
I’m
done with the struggle I’m too tired to fight.
Everyone says that I should be content
But they just
don’t know how much time I’ve spent
Trying to make this thing work, it’s been my best
years
And still all I have are frustration and tears…
I’m starting to think this just isn’t to be
Perhaps
the best thing
Is to let you go free
I don’t want to admit the things I’ve put you through
I can’t say I’ve ever just let you be you
Please don’t betray me, I’m very afraid
Of what others
will think; that my status will fade
I’ll surrender my ways and give you the wheel
What our
future holds, I must let time reveal
I’m seeing a change, my fears were all wrong
And I’m
changing too; I don’t have to belong!
Now I can’t believe I mistreated you so
All I needed
to do
Was just let you go
So you be yourself, and I’ll be me
And we’ll both be
happy; we are finally free…
An Invaluable Lesson
I learned an invaluable lesson today...one that you think I would have "known", but it just didn't dawn on me. At no point in time did YAH say that following Him...serving Him...being obedient to Him meant that the walk, the journey, the road, would be easy; that there weren't going to be some bumps and curves ni the road and that it was going to be paved with sweet smelling flowers and pixie dust!
Just because He said "GO" or "DO IT", doesn't mean that everything is goingto be perfect going forward. We are human, living in a fallible world, while serving an infallible Creator. The key is to be OBEDIENT to His will and what He directs us/you/me to do and allow Him to work everything else out!
As he used Val and Nette, (two of my closest Sista-Queens) to remind me, no matter what it LOOKS like, HE works it out ALL for HIS good and HIS glory.
So, with that said, no longer will I allow the enemy to cause me to believe that I did not hear my Father speak - just because it's not "Pretty in Pink". He said what He said...He'll DO what He said He would DO and I just need to trust, believe, have faith, and get out of His way (He don't need my help!)
(I shared this because I KNOW I'm not the only one who needed it...plus, I was told to!)
Depressed (You Think?)
*Note From Dejanique* Re-reading this, I can tell that when I first wrote this, I was at a very dark place in my life and my poetry was my only SAFE outlet. I thank YAH for finally showing me a different way to look at life....
My life is shit and I wish I could end it
But I’m too much of a ‘pussy’
To just do it
Too scared
Of what I’ll meet
On the other side
So
I stay here
And wonder
What I can do
To lessen the pain
The hurt
The confusion
I swear
I take
Ten steps back
For every one I take
To move forward
When it seems
That
I’m making a difference
Or
There’s a chance
For the better
I find myself
Stumbling
All over again
I want to just stop
Stop and say
“Forget It!”
Start drinking
Start drugging
Do something to numb
The pain
The hurt
The confusion
But instead
I sit
Day in
Day out
And
Prepare myself
To die
Die
A slow death
A death
Full of
Pain
Hurt
And unfortunately
Confusion
Depression – such a pain in
the ass!
